The Monique Burr Foundation for Children (MBF) is a nonprofit organization located in Jacksonville, FL. MBF was started by Edward E. Burr in 1997 on the one-year anniversary of the death of Monique Burr, his late wife, to continue her legacy of child protection and child advocacy. The organization has a history of child abuse prevention and advocacy; however prevention education is now our exclusive focus. Although our strategies may have changed over the years, our core mission has remained the same – to protect children by providing the best comprehensive, evidence-based prevention education programs.
Research shows that child victimization is preventable through education, which is why we created MBF Prevention Education Programs. MBF Programs educate and empower children/teens (Pre-K – 12th grade) and relevant adults with information and strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to child abuse, bullying, cyberbullying, trafficking, and other forms of child victimization.
MBF is now a leader in prevention education with our programs having reached over 14 million children throughout Florida and the United States.
MBF Prevention Education Programs are comprehensive, evidence-based/trauma-informed programs based on polyvictimization research. All programs teach universal safety strategies and address child abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect), bullying, cyberbullying, digital dangers, exploitation, teen dating violence, and trafficking, in a fun and engaging way.
MBF programs are trusted and supported by thousands of schools and have been delivered to millions of students in the U.S. and internationally — 39 states and six countries!
